Prior to joining the Rio Rico Medical & Fire Board in 2017, Michael retired with over 40 years of consumer banking experience with Citibank, ABN AMRO, Standard Chartered and Barclays.  Covering 45 countries, Michael has a global perspective of banking and a broad understanding of operational differences across a wide variety of economic and legal environments.  Most of his career has involved risk management (i.e. credit risk, operational risk, treasury risk, sovereign risk, foreign currency risk).

Heading ‘Citicorp Homeowners’ Portfolio Management function, he drove the development of the first credit score specifically for home mortgages in the early 1990's. Moving to Singapore in 1994, Michael managed senior functions in credit risk covering Asia and Central Europe (was a member of the Citibank Hungary Board of Directors). Upon joining ABN AMRO as Regional Credit Officer, he implemented a global consumer credit policy manual, product profitability measures & standards, the business risk review process and credit training programs through Asia, Middle-East, and Africa. At Standard Chartered he has held the positions Chief Global Consumer Bank Risk Officer, Group Head of Business Risk Review and later Chief Operating Officer in Singapore. Most recently he was a Risk Director for Barclays, in London England, covering Europe and Africa.

Managing risk through three major economic downturns, as well as the differing evolutionary states of country economies, has fueled his passion to help marketplace managers to understand their financial portfolios/practices in context of environmental and regulatory conditions.   He believes it is key to optimize current performance while being prepared for future challenges.
